Hi there,
Much of the work behind next spring’s tax return happens now, while there’s still time to make choices. None of it needs to be complicated.
Here’s what we’re reviewing with clients this month:
| • |
Catch up your books. Reconcile your bank and credit card accounts through the end of the year, so your decisions are based on your actual results. |
| • |
Collect contractor details now. If you paid independent contractors this year, make sure you have a current Form W‑9 on file for each one. It makes January much easier. |
| • |
Think about timing. Depending on your situation, it may help to time certain purchases or payments before or after year‑end. Talk it through with us before you act. |
| • |
Look at retirement plan options. Contributing to a retirement plan for yourself or your team may lower your taxes. Rules and deadlines differ by plan type, so ask us which apply to you. |
| • |
Gather receipts and mileage records. Organized records make your return faster to prepare and support your deductions if questions ever come up. |
|
A date to mark now
Forms W‑2 and 1099‑NEC for 2026 are due to the government and to your workers and contractors by February 1, 2027. The usual date is January 31, which falls on a Sunday this time.

Tip of the month
Give your receipts a home
Snap a photo of each business receipt the day you get it and save it to one folder, sorted by month. It takes seconds, and it turns a stressful shoebox in April into a quick upload.

Around the office
A simpler way to share files
We’re moving document sharing to a secure client portal, so you won’t need to email statements back and forth. Watch for an invitation from us with simple setup steps over the next few weeks.
